Screen Recording as Evidence During Test Case Execution

TestCollab allows testers to record their screen during test case execution and automatically attach the recording as evidence, making test results clearer, more traceable, and easier to review.

Updated today

Overview

TestCollab now allows screen recording during test case execution, making it easier to capture clear visual evidence of test results. Testers can record a browser tab, application window, or the entire screen while executing a test case, and the recording is automatically attached to the executed test case as evidence. Audio recording can also be included if enabled by the project administrator.

This feature helps teams improve traceability, reduce ambiguity in test results, and simplify defect analysis by providing rich, visual context for every execution.

Enabling screen recording

Only administrators can enable the screen recording for a project:

  1. Open the project

  2. Go to Settings β†’ General

  3. Click on the toggle button next to Enable screen recordings for test plan run

  4. Optionally, enable Include audio in screen recordings if audio evidence is also required

  5. Save the settings

Once enabled, this setting applies to all the future test executions within the project.

Recording during test execution

When a tester starts executing a test case in a test plan.

  1. A prompt appears asking which screen to record:

    • A specific browser tab

    • A specific application window

    • The entire screen

  2. If audio recording is enabled for project, the tester may also grant microphone access

  3. Screen recording starts automatically once the selection is made

The tester can stop screen sharing manually at any point during execution. If not stopped manually, the recording ends automatically when the tester sets the final status of the test case.

Automatic attachment of recordings

After the test case execution is completed:

  • The recorded video (and audio, if included) is automatically saved

  • The recording is attached to the executed test case as evidence

  • No manual upload or action is required from the tester

This ensures consistent and reliable evidence capture for audits, reviews, and defect discussions.

Key benefits

  • Eliminates manual evidence recording and uploads

  • Provides clear visual context for test results

  • Improves collaboration between QA, developers, and stakeholders

  • Ensures consistent documentation of test executions
