The hidden coverage gap most QA teams miss!
You have hundreds, or maybe thousands, of test cases in your project. Some get executed every sprint. Some sit in a test plan, waiting for the right moment. And some? Some have never been picked up by anyone, ever.
Those forgotten test cases are a quiet risk. They might cover an edge case you wrote during planning, a regression scenario you meant to revisit, or a feature that shipped without anyone running its checks. Until now, finding them meant exporting CSVs, writing custom queries, or hoping you'd remember.
That changes today.
Meet the "Never Assigned" tracker
TestCollab now flags every test case in your project as either Never Assigned (or not) based on a simple rule:
A test case is Never Assigned if no one has been set as its assignee in any test plan, configuration, or execution.
Once a test case gets assigned to someone, it's no longer "Never assigned".
Where you'll see it
1. On your Project Dashboard
A new tile, Never Assigned Test Cases, appears alongside your existing project metrics. One glance tells you how many test cases in this project have slipped through the cracks.
2. On the Test Cases Manage page
A new Never Assigned column is available in the test case grid. It's hidden by default to keep your view clean, turn it on from the Column Chooser when you need it.
3. In the Filters pane
Want to see only the test cases nobody has ever picked up? Open the filter pane and add the Never Assigned filter, choose Yes to shortlist the unassigned test cases, and No to see everything that has been assigned as of now.
How teams are using it
Sprint planning: Pull up Never Assigned = Yes before every cycle to make sure new test cases actually get testers.
Coverage audits: Run a quarterly review to ensure no high-priority test cases were authored and forgotten.
Onboarding new testers: Hand them a curated list of never-touched test cases as a great place to start contributing.
Cleanup: Identify stale test cases that may no longer be relevant and decide whether to delete or assign them.
Get started
The Never Assigned metric is available to all TestCollab projects automatically - no setup, no toggles. Existing test cases have already been backfilled based on their assignment history, so the data is accurate from day one.
Open any project today, glance at the dashboard, and find out: how many of your test cases have been waiting for a tester all along?
